Thymosin alpha-1 (Tα1; thymalfasin; CAS 62304-98-7) is a 28-amino-acid, N-terminally acetylated peptide (Ac-SDAAVDTSSEITTKDLKEKKEVVEEAEN, free C-terminal -OH) originally isolated from thymic tissue and sequenced by Goldstein and colleagues (1977). The N-terminal acetylation is an intrinsic feature of its molecular identity.

As a laboratory reference material, thymosin alpha-1 supports research into innate and adaptive immune signaling. This material is supplied for laboratory research use only. It is chemically and biologically distinct from thymosin beta-4 and the TB-500 fragment.

In murine dendritic-cell models, thymosin alpha-1 has been reported to act through Toll-like-receptor signaling: it activated dendritic cells for antifungal Th1 resistance via TLR-dependent signaling (Romani et al., 2004). These are cell-model and animal-model observations of proximal immune signaling; downstream cytokine and transcription-factor changes reported in that literature are not asserted here as direct molecular targets.
