GHRP-6 is reported to act as an agonist at the growth-hormone-secretagogue receptor GHS-R1a (the ghrelin receptor), and in cell models GHRP-6 acting through this receptor regulates pituitary transcription factors such as Pit-1 (García et al., 2001). Separately, GHRP-6 has been reported to engage the scavenger receptor CD36 to mediate cardiovascular actions in the heart (Bodart et al., 2002). These are receptor- and cell-model characterizations; the GHS-R1a/ghrelin receptor is the exact governed molecular target, CD36 is reported but not in the governed vocabulary, and downstream growth-hormone/IGF-1 signaling is not asserted here as a direct molecular target.
